why stop beta blocker to use epineph in anaphylax - got2study2pass
#1
hi, im not understanding why u need to stop taking a beta blocker in case of anaphylaxix.

for example it says that if u treat nuerosyphylis in a pencillin allergic patient, u do desenstisation, and before starting desenstisation, patient must stop taking beta blockers because in case u need to use epinepherine..

dont know why.

epi== alpha 1, 2, beta 1

beta blocker...blocks beta 1 and beta 2....how will it have any effect if u stop it. if u stop it..then beta 1 is not blocked...so u get dilation...more hypotension...and predominant of alpha

god so confused.

in case of anaphylaxis u ll need inotropic agents .. typically epinephrine which is beta 1 agonist ..
if u are using beta blocker, then epinephrine will not work !!

THINK that epinephrine is;
1. alpha 1 agnoist: vasoconstriction ..
2. beta 1 agonsit; inotropy ..
3. beta 2 agnoist; bronchodilation ..
