4 YO kid living in the classic old town is not active and is anemic. RBCs have blue specks. Treatment?
1. Dimercaprol
2. Succimer
3. EDTA
4. Charcoal
5. PAM

1,2 and 3 are all used individually or together! EDTA is sometimes used as first line, but succimer is oral and the only one FDA approved for lead poisoning in children. What is the answer?

This depends on the blood lead level:
-if less than 45: DMSA (succimer)
-if 70 or greater: dual therapy EDTA+DMSA/BAL if no encephalopathy, and EDTA+BAL if encephalopathy

All 4 drugs can be given to children: DMSA, CaEDTA, BAL and penicillamine

as the question doesnt mention lead enceph ... only less active.. child... I think Succimer is justified for a lower Lead level.... Odin thank u for the info.... God Bless u! This looks mre chronic expo... with anemia ..

But how long does lead expo lead to anemia?
