Septic arthritis treatment - 99wish

Hi

can someone please tell me that is there any specific criteria to do "Joint fluid aspiration" in treatment of septic arthritis or we aspirate every case regardless of everything...

plz someone take some time to clearify my confusion

whenever you see monoarticular arthritis which is red, warm, and painful, you do aspiration, and send for WBC, RBC, Gram's, microscopy. because these involves gouty arthritis, pseudogout, and septic arthritis. the treatments are different so we need to do aspiration for all of them.

btw, can any1 tell me the treatments of pseudogout besides treating the underlying diseases? thanks.

what if joint aspiration shows high WBCs (>100,000) and postivie for bacteria ie septic arthritis is confirmed... what is the managment plan then?
