CHADS2 is used to decide whether or not atrial fibrillation patient needs anticoagulation or if ASA alone is enough to prevent stroke or TIA ( from Dr.Red cardiology)

An afib patient with ZERO CHADS2 score is grouped "LONE" Atrial fibrillation. Prevention of CVA in one afib is just by ASA alone.

A patient with one or more CHADS2 needs anticogulation with Warfarin.

CHADS2 - each one point
C-CHF
H-HTN
A-AGE > 75 ( original chad2 says 75. But Dr.red said to take age cut off as 60 and above so that you will never get wrong in rxng patient as to when they need warfarin in afib0
D - DM
S - Stroke - give 2 points.
