message: more visa trouble - gummybear
#1
is in store
for people who
are trying to
come inside the
country on a
h1b visa. if
you are already
legally in the
at the time
of match, then
you apply for
h1b from here
(change of status).
if coming from
outside and need
to apply visa
j1 is a
way safer bet
than a h1b.
ofcourse you can
disagree with me
and its just
your own career.

It is true that there are problems with going for visa on H1. Of all the cases i heard none of them were stopped completely but their passports and applications were retained ranging from few days to few weeks and all of them finally go their visas. It is just not with new applications. A few of my seniors who are already in their second years at univ hospitals on H1 had similar experience. But they all came back. J1 is much easier when you do it from your home country. But if you are here, i agree with gummybear that changing your status to H1 from within is a good option.
