Took step 3 both days. OH....? - mannepal

I took the exam boring and treacherous as it is. I t needs a lot of preparation , i studied for one month after one year of break . it was difficult for me to study. Used medstudy,Kaplan,Blue print, NMS, USW, Crush step 3,Swanson Washington manual and my own notes. YOU need to really prepare for it at least 3 months from the beginning wholeheartedly. repeat questions and practice CCS cases at least three times . Questions are very lengthy, difficulty to have time management and so is the option. Lots of questions from vague areas like ethics, biostat, vague answers, vague choices, vague ideas. BUt try to read all the question stem and don't get carried away by first few or last few sentences , major sentences lie in the middle of the paragraph which modify your choice i had same problem. Xrays are sometimes not well illuminated i had difficulty to identify pneumothorax , even. so be careful I hope to pass , can't afford to read again.
I had bad first day experience, difficult questions , i thought i am going to fail. Second day was a good, did somewhat well in MCQs and better in CCS. All ccs cases were out of USW but i could do all of them . forgot to do few investigations , but managed well and 9 out of 9 improved . i could not discharge two, before i could discharge , 5 minute window came . It took sometime in loading the casesa and while giving orders otherwise everything went well.
My first time score were like this.
USW 62.18%
NMS 65.8%
NBME 66.2%
Blueprint 66%
MKSAP13-59%
I wish i pass, i can't afford to fail and study it again. I will post my experience here again.

Don't worry! Hopefully you will pass. Everybody says the first day is like hell. As for the cases you don't have to discharge all patients because I saw it sometimes happening in the simulation cd they sent us , if you do all the necessary procedures they will end the case even before the time ends.

By the way do you have 20 minutes for all the cases or does time you have vary according to the case?

i did not use 20 minutes in any of cases , cases would end before that by saying patient is improved and the case is ending in next 5 minutes ...........like this , even before i could view few of the results that i have ordered.

if you do well it may end well before time , however ending before or within time frame is not a judgement of good or bad management.
