need advice - olddoc2011
#1
Hi forum members. I am new here and need some sincere advice. I had taken my step 1 and got a 75 (pass) almost 7 years ago (jul 31, 2004). Something had come up where I was never able to take step 2 CK, but I did clear step 2 CS in mid-Nov 2004. I had started to prep for step 2CK 1 month ago and had regisered for this exam on Jul 30th in Hamilton, NJ.

Sad part: I just finished 52% of usmleworld for 2CK and took the forst 2 NBME assessments and my evaluation scores are nowhere near the acceptable range, so I just cancelled my appointment. My dilemma is that if I do not take step 2CK on Jul 30th, I will have to repeat step 1.

In a way, I think it may be better to improve my step 1 score becuase with the 75 score I have right now, I am doomed as is regardless of my score on step 2 CK.

3 questions:
1. Is it better to delay step 2CK and just re-take step 1 prior in November?
2. Is doing the usmleworld throughly 2 times in tutor mode along with MTB3 adequate for step 2CK?
3. Are the Goljan pathology lectures available and are they still considered gold for step 1?

Thanks for sharing your advice and I wish everyone all the best with their studies.

I think you should take this as a GOLDEN opportunity to improve on your Step 1 score. Every opportunity you get to study, is an opportunity to become a more knowledgeable you!

Good thing you postphoned your step 2, good scores are a great deal, as you may know by now. I think your plan for Step 2 studying may be sufficient, but I would still advise to read Kaplan for high yield topics.

People rave about goljan lectures for step 1. Unfortunately I did'nt know about them when I took my step 1. But you should be able to find them on step 1 forum.

Cheers!

Thanks, Psych25 and yes it makes sense since it would be foolish to have two low scores considering that I do have an option at this point to improve step 1.
