Observ... is not acceptable for most programs .and you should have submitted your LOR with that rotations before.

i was also told observ not counted and strictly told not to spent money and energy in it by some attending here but if u don't have anything, better to do, at least u won't have gap. something is better than nothing! I feel November observership is not going to help u to fetch interview but good point during interview.

#1 MOST IMPORTANT PRIORITY BEFORE YOU EVEN BEGIN!
first finish step 3!-(get greater than 85 with no attempts; i.e., ALL IMG Friendly programs/externship directors- they have spoken to me personally and discuss this at the annual residency directors' meetings- NOW REQUIRE THIS PASSAGE AS A REQUIREMENT EVEN THOUGH THEY MAY NOT STATE THIS SPECIFICALLY; essentially -especially in the IMG friendly programs- too many low step 1 and step 2 scoring residents are unable to pass step 3. in most programs now they will not even let the resident graduate past PGY-2 without step 3 passage. then this failing resident becomes a liability for the program director and creates difficulties in filling the residency spots; also this person cannot even get a medical license so that he or she cannot serve to moonlight in the hospital ER at times of house staff shortage )

@ble21ach

Like others have mentioned above, observerships really don't add that much strength to an application, unless you are able to form a strong positive relationship with one of the attendings and get a LOR out of it. In your case, now that you have already applied, an observership is pretty much pointless unless you are going to a place where you think you can match. And if you also think that you can impress the hell out of them. Remember observerships can also backfire and hurt your chances at that residency program if they feel that you are not up to par. Judge the pros and cons and decide if it's worth the time and effort. In my opinion, now that you have already submmitted your application, don't worry about an observership.

" observership does not count " --- is the stupidest thing i have heard...observership count in many ways . (1) you have USCE on your CV which looks good (2) most of the time attending will give you ROL for the experience (3) I am sure that i will get Iv from the places where i did my observerships , as PD/ PC told me that they only give observerships to candidates whom they might see as future resident candidate ... will i match or not thats the other thing but more IV= higher chances of match ...
