From this board here are some practice test question to real exam correlations i found:
Qbank-78%; USMLE CD-42, 43, 36 (46Q version); Kaplan CD 78%; 97/259
Q bank 70-72 245 94
Q bank scored 85 as average 246-94
Kaplan Q Bank 74 245 94
mine: Q bank (1st pass) 76%, alert 76, prometric (weekend before exam)88% 238/92
my plan and experience:
took step 1 september 12,2002 (228/92), was in rotations throughout step 1 and step 2 prep so I've been feeling very burnt from studying; so after step 1 took 1 month of light studying then tried to hit it hard for three months.
goals 80% Q bank: reality 1st pass- 76 2nd pass- 85 3rd-90
alert avg 77 (had been doing these over past year)
prometric avg 88 (weekend before exam)
study time daily goal 8hours: reality 6
2hours of 100 Q bank NMS or alert (50, 2 min break,50)200/day weekends
1 hour timed 50 cases S1&S2 underground Clin vign (for speed building) 100/day weekends
3hours of Crush the Boards-must have this book
2-20pages Current Medical Diagnosis &Therapeutics
1 1st aid Step 1(never really got around to this)
was tempted to look at 1st aid step 2 and perscription but after brief glances felt they could add nothing to CTB.
my test:i had worked on speed so had plenty of time: at least 10min most sections though 1min on one and 15min on another. Stuck to my exam plan of 50 Q's, 2 min eye break, then 50 Q's, 10 minutes in between 100 Q block, and 20 min for lunch. Took test in UK- central London Oxford circus center much better than Twickenham where I did step 1 where markers didn't work and they kept giving me more bad ones- jackhammer going off in middle of testing block. Ask about construction when you book- even though Twickenham said non planned- I think they were a little dishonest.
In my exam got focus areas as expected med-cardio neuro and good mix of all else.-Saw couple of prometric q's so definitely do those.. Crush the Boards rules rules rules-get this book..Q bank was best question prep, though Alert and NMS often hit the important areas as well.CMDT rocks for the hard hit areas- cardio, lung, neuro, and is good to get you in the 'I really am a doc.' mindset.
I felt like I got 75% of q's so think I got 235+/-10 my guess is 240. Took test Jan 15 my results were mailed 3/52 later got 238/92.
