One of my very old friend told me that we can do presentations to get good recommendation, but I am not in touch with him,

any one can tell on what topics we can do presentations . i mean is it case presentation ?

During an observation, if you are in a university hospital setting you def need to present patients. That doesnt mean you examine or interact with them on your own but if you are put on a team, ask your attending if you can follow a few patients and stick to one intern or resident and go see patients with him/her before rounds, ask if you can present X, Y patient because Dr. ABC said you could. They wont say no but You have to ask.

Presenting means you describe the SOAP as a daily round on that patient, make sure you are up to date on the patients you follow on rounds.
If the Patient came from ER make sure if you are presenting you give proper history and exam with assessment and plan.

Remember for daily rounds you are doing that day's SOAP so be to the point and thorough for that day. University setting is meant for teaching so act like you are learning and reading on yoru patients. Make sure you mention I was with Dr. ABC when we saw the patient in the morning and DR ABC described the exam was like this. You can say Last time I checked lab with Dr. XYZ this morning and fill on
Describe your assessment in 1, 2, 3, 4 by the most important issue that morning on top and so on. Say Dr ABC and I are in agreement on this.

You can also offer to do paper presentations if the attending brings a few papers to the rounds and asks who wants to present, do volunteer, even if you dont get picked.

If you are in a clinic setting you can always ask your doc if he/she would like for you to present the patient to him/her briefly at the end of encounter.

I personally like university setting observerships - they are full of opportunity.
