Hey guys Happy & Prosperous New Year 2014
Anyone could explain me please, why usmle step 3 is required for IMG? Is it necessary to pass Step 3 before applying residency program those IMG who have resident status in US?

having a good step 3 score helps IMGs no matter what. it shows your up to date, current. as long as you have states experince with LOR from those rotations, you have a competitive advantage over other applicants. I had 5 interviews last year, no step3 and did not match. this year passed step 3 with 216 and I have 7 interviews, 2 at places I interviewed at last year. It is looking very good. because now I have step 3 216…..bam. They were impressed with the step 3 score, so take it to pass comfortably, not to just get by. This looks weak a 195. all program directors are worried about is that they maintain their specialty board passing rate as high as possible.
