Gout - alibi
#11
B is the correct answer.
Tibor, thanks for hitting the target. We all know that acute gout is treated with either, indomethacin or colchicin. However, chronic gout can be treated with either ALLUPURINOL OR PROBENCID. The question is when do give what. If the 24hr uric acid concentration exceeds 800mg, we start with Allopurinol. Probenecid is recommended for 24hr uric acid less than 800mg. So 800mg is the the deciding level. In the Q, the pt has 600mg uric acid conc. and should then be treated with probenecid. Thanks for contributing. Alibism
