You haven't finished any usmle and you're concerned about research!
Forget about research for now altogether, and just focus to finish those exams with the highest scores that you can. Time is against you and these tests are not easy to conquer; especially for someone who's been away for a while.
Again forget about research and focus about the tests. The reason I'm saying this is that you'll waste a lot of time pursuing research opportunities, even if you get it. That time is very valuable to study for usmle.
