it is ticlopidine which can cause agranlocytosis so you must do cbc .


other drugs where you have to monitor wbc count are propylthiouracil and neomercazole used in thyrotoxicosis/ clozapine used in negative symtomed and refractory schzinophrenia or other psychosis./ anticonvulsant like carbamazepine though liver fn is mmore important/chlomphenicol. whenover these pt have pharyngitis kind of symtoms ask them to report because thatmay be the starting of agranulocytosis.

does ticlopidine cause throbocytopenia also---bible ?

That is why it is off the market.... severe neutropenia. There are other medications that cause neutropenia that are still in use..for example CARBAMAZEPINE.

djyoti , thanks for the question. Indeed the side effects of Ticlopidin are vast, throbocytopenia being one of them, but "it seldom causes throbocytopenia".
