whats a better LOR - rkus
#1
Hi,
I have been volunteering in a research department for about 8 months, but no publications yet. Should I ask for a Lor or not ? I mean does it help. If I ask the PI , should I specify for one particular speciality or just in general letter. Need some good advise.

publications take awhile so understandable if you dont have one yet. yes for any experience try to get the LOR it's up to you if you want to use it... but always get one is my advice.

only you know if you want a generic or a specialty one, since you know what you want to apply to.

good luck

well thanks for the input saatori. I am so confused that if I am too late now to ask for the Lor and should I even apply this year with no big changes in my CV.

conventional wisdom is that you must improve on your CV each time you apply...
but that being said, dont jump to conclusions.. try to ask for and get that LOR first... and then you can always decide... the point is get that LOR.. these days a good LOR is worth it's weight in gold so dont let that opportunity pass by especially since you have put in the work

good luck
