7 year NBME rule requirement - cylack
#1
I'm a Caribbean medical student currently starting my 4th year. I started medical school in Fall of 2009, but because of various health and financial reasons it has taken me a while to reach this point. The 7 year requirement by NBME is a little confusing. Does it state that one has to graduate from medical school within 7 years of starting or one has to finish all 3 steps within 7 years of passing the first step?

Cy lack, you have to complete step 1, 2, and cs within a 7 year time frame. It does not apply to step 3. Hope this helps.

this is partially true. ECFMG requires you to finish step 1, 2 CK and CS within 7 years. You have to be ECFMG certified in order to register for step 3. You have to look at the states requirements for medical license. https://www.fsmb.org/policy/public-resou...e_specific
Although not all but many states require you to pass all steps within 7 years. If you will not pass all within 7 years, then apply to those states that don't have any limits or 10 years limits.

Apparently there was a ECFMG 7 year rule with regards to transfer credits, but no more. I found this:
