MAOIs Mono amine oxidase inhibitors, A and B
B inhibits degradation of dopamine, these are used in parkinsonism treatment.
MAO i A is the inhibitor of nerepinephrine and serotonin degradation. there are sed in the tx of depression.
When used in combination with SSRIs, they cause serotonin syndrome.
when used in cmbination with TCAs they cause hypertensive crisis
when used with some cheeses and foods containing tyramine they cause hypertensive crisis
