Electives and match - usmle4k
#1
Hi, I am an IMG from India and my step 1 score was 234. I was planning on doing electives at universities and I realized that would delay my degree certificate by a year due to the leave i would have to take and I would have to apply for the match without a ecfmg certification or apply for the next match. I am really confused. I don't know If its a good idea to apply without electives the same year or do electives and apply without ecfmg certification. I have done one elective previously in IM in New York. Please please help. I'm totally lost.

Do as many electives as possible and apply without ecfmg certification. ecfmg certification matters far less than electives as long as you have it done before programs making their rank list. Without electives your chances of match are dramatically compromised with your step1 scores. Ob or externship are not as good as electives in university hospitals

You can find information about AMIQT and our clinical rotations for International Medical Students at https://amiqt.wordpress.com/.

President of AMIQT, Dr. Peter Bernad http://www.neuro-doc.com/, is board certified in neurology and welcomes students to participate in month-long rotations and observerships with him and highly qualified colleagues. If students are interested in multiple specialties, we can accommodate them.
