Cephalosporin-resistant gonorrhea treatment? - geniusone
#1
UWorld explanation mentions benefit of azithromycin when the infection is cephalosporin-resistant.
Therefore, any gonorrhea infection treatment is ALWAYS cephalosporin + azithromcyin?

We use to Rx for uncomplicated gono of urethra/pharynx/cervix/ or rectum give the 1st line for our menu Cerfixone 250mgIM single dose + to treat for chlamy if in not ruled out you would of give azithromycin 1g PO single dose or doxy 100mmg PO bid 4/7d. Now from last year CDC now recommended only one regiment dual therapy gono with IM cephalosporin ceftriaxone + PO azithromycin to cover potential cephalosporin resistance. Keep in mind is not recommended for 1st line gono and is expensive.
