so we use amyl nitrite for it ,,but what about sodium thiosulfate
I mean we start with the amul nitrate then give the thiosulfate

Cyanide toxicity can be treated with an antidote such as hydroxycobalamin(a vitamin B12 percursor) OR sodium thiosulfate, which directly binds cyanide molecules.
An alteranate treatment is induction of methomeglobinemia with nitrites to increase ferric iron(Fe3+) in circulating hemoglobin.Cyanide binds avidly to Fe3+,and so methomoglobinemia provides an alternate binding sites. To treat cyanide poisoning, use nitrites to oxidize Hb to methemoglobin(Oxidized form of Hb (ferric, Fe3+), this binds cyanide. Use thiosulfate to bind this cyanide, forming thiocyanate, which is renally excreted. |
