one of the reason why surgery is so tough - galdc

in nrmp programs give their names and lors as we do.
If all the seats of the program is not filled it goes to scramble like us.
Say if a program has 4 seat and 3 seats are filled then it goes to scramble. So in the scramble you'l see programs with empty seats. But the problem is they don't have to fill all 4 seats and they don't want any more candidates.
So, after they realise that their 3 seats are filled outof 4 seats,, they start to withdraw.
Now, this withdrawl makes the pseudo impression to the candidates that seats are getting filled very fast and think that many candidates got the position in surgery. Hence thinks that it's not so competitive as we think. But in reality they just keep those seats empty. Surgery still one of the toughest.
Ofcourse some people with good contact/no visa issure gets the seat during scarmble in surgery.

u r right galdc, sometimes prelim spots are seen as still unfilled on nrmp, they are unfilled in reality too, but the programs dont want to fill them up. you are right.
