J1 visa impacted by new immigration policies? - eastcoastresident
#1
Just wondering if J1 visa will be affected by the newly proposed policies on crack down on "employment based visas" and 'road to legal permanent residency', will J1 visa be impacted this year?

It appears they are focusing on "unskilled workers", but just thinking out-loud of IMG physicians will also be impacted?

I'm fairly certain J1 visa is not even considered an "employment based visa", but correct me if I'm wrong.

Thx,

I know the Dean of a program, and he mention to me that since this past match they tried to avoid applicants that needed J1.

So yes, it may affect, but I have several friends who scored over 245 and needed J1, they didn't have any problems, so I guess it because they are like above the 85 percentile so programs take the chance. and some other friends that scored below 230 had very few interviews (2-3) and didn't match VS other friends with borderline steps that didn't require visa and match.

In conclusion, I think it does affect.

Best match number last year for visa seeking imgs. So overall looks like a big no.
