2 year gap after graduation before match - lauram
#1
Hello, I have to take a 2 year gap after med school graduation (USA) to meet my obligation in the Korean military.

1. Assuming my step 1 & 2 scores, research publications, LOR's are on level for my desired residency, how will the 2 year gap affect my match?

2. How will PD's look upon the experiences (LOR's or other significant portions) in my ERAS application, if my experiences are 2 years older than expected?

3. If the 2 year gap will significantly downgrade the competitiveness of my application, what are some ways to make things up?

Thank you very much.

*2 years in ROK military = manual labor... no real time for studying etc

Was in a similar shoe ( took 2-year during med school for military training... TW citizen). I think it actually did some good while I was interviewing and I had a gap after graduation as well. just have decent scores, productive CV, and some USCEs, I think it would be not too difficult to receive IVs. Good Luck!
