7 year limit - uslme2807
#1
Please, I would like some information to plan my test schedule.
I have passed the step 2 in 1999 and as I read in the ECFMG buletin I would need to pass only step 1 and step2CK in a 7-year-period (see below). There is the a further time-limit to pass step2CS and step 3?

I have also done a PhD. Is there anyone who got time-limit extension because of it. Please, reply me. Any comment is welcome.

Earliest USMLE Passing Performance Before June 14, 2004
If an applicant™s earliest USMLE passing performance that is valid for ECFMG Certification took place before June 14, 2004, the applicant is required to pass only Step 1 and Step 2 CK within a seven-year period for ECFMG Certification. (If the applicant is required to pass Step 2 CS to satisfy the clinical skills requirement for ECFMG Certification, the applicant will not be required to pass Step 2 CS during the seven-year period in which the applicant must pass Step 1 and Step 2 CK.)

mha,
That´s the point I have not done the step 1, cs and 3 yet, and I was wondering which would be the best approach. To do the steps as soon as possible (otherwise it will expire) and run the risk of flunking or to take my time, study more and to all again.

u cannot take the step3 unless u r ecfmg certified, that means u hav to pass the steps1+2+the csa or cs before sitting 4 the step3.
Regarding the 7-year limit,go to the website of FSMB,then u will see the requirements of each state. For most states, the limit period is 7 years, for others 10 years in particular for those candidates with MD degree. For a very few states,it is not limitted. In a few states i hav heard that it is possible to ask for an extension.
