Would someone please explain what is the difference between general internal medicine and specialized internal medicine? What a person do if he finishes general internal medicine residency? Does he have a chance to get into specialized internal medicine later? Thanks.

I don't know , but i know there is a categorical and a preliminary I.M. The first one is a 3 year program focused in IM as a specialty and the latter is a 1 year rotatory prog. which is mainly helpful if you want to pursue another related field right after your internship (i.e. neurology).
