I have started ny residency 1 st year in July and am on OPT ( optional practical training) . I want to travel to India while on OPT. Is it safe to do this? Any input is appreciated.

no. get hold of a lawyer. this question was here a coupla days back. dont mess such big issues bcoz we all dont have a degree in law. u have spent too much and worked too hard to get screwed over such a small thing
