Just be confident, donot panic, most SPs with hip problem are males, they donot mind u examining with their undergarments on with drape covering the other hip.
Key is to be confident as if u have been doing it every now and then , keep talking to the SP, instructing him what to do, like could u bend at hip, if he has pain, just reassure him that u will be very gentle. Make ur diagnosis from the fact that whether he had fever ( maybe it is septic), has history of cancer ( maybe it is metastatic) or it is just old age ( osteoarthritic). Always examine other HIP and inquire about other joints. In a hip case what SP will be impressed with is not how well u examined hip but by overall performance. Ur data gathering, appropriate reaasurance, set of tests and empathy u showed when he feighned pain. always tell the diagnostic possibility and tell them that we will be performing blood tests, x rays to confirm the diagnosis, further testing may be warranted depending upon initial results. In the meantime we will give u medicines to control ur pain. Then ask whether u have any concerns or questions. |
