Mitral valve prolapse is found in 2-5% of adults and is the most common valvular abnormality among residents of industrialized nations. MVP causes a mid to late systolic click that may be followed by a late systolic murmur most easily detected over the left ventricle.
Mitral regurgitation: Apical holosystolic murmur.
Pulmonic stenosis: Systolic crescendo-decrescendo murmur.
Mitral stenosis: rumbling diastolic murmur heard best when patient is sitting in left lateral decubitus position.
CARDIAC TAMPONADE: MUFFLED heart sounds.
