categorical vs advanced - oompa11

im applying for anesthesia. some programs listed (like columbia) allows a choice of categorical, advanced, or you can check both. whats the difference between them?

if it is yr first time,u didnot apply to any programs before
then u should apply for catagorical only
advanced means after take first preliminary year in IM
