because HCO3 is lost because of diarrhoea or malabsorption condition which cause metabolic acidosis and to compensate that bicarbonate HCO3 loss that is 1 negative ion , CL ion is gained .. hence the condition results in HYPER chloremic metabolic alkalosis . hope it helps
