Isn't it technically a violation to prematch regardless of whether you're a US grad or foreign grad??

no..... read the rules!!!! they say it is okay for independant applicants... this is what we all are.so it is not a violation!

NRMP or ERAS do not own you. Only if you match by nrmp, you need to stick with that program. If you still want to go to another program, you can do so with permission from the pd of the program you matched to.There are programs you never participate in NRMP or ERAS and still recruit candidates every year.
