3 main criteria for PTSD - raji_321
#1
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), is an anxiety disorder that may develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event.
Re-experiencing the event, attempting to avoid stimuli that may lead to recollections, and hyperarousal are the three main criteria for this disorder.
This syndrome may begin at anytime after the trauma

PTSD often follows acute stress disorder which last up to 2-4 weeks.

yes lumbarpuncture is right..
less than 1 month- acute stress disorder...
greater than 1month- PTSD

joannitam, that six months thing is associated with adjustment disd. with anxiety and depressed mood... this also follows a trauma, but doesnt have criteria of PTSD and should not last more than 6 months.

yes, efi is correct.

If symptoms last for 1 month- Acute stress disorder.

But if they last more than month, diagnosis is shifted to PTSD. time limit is not given for this.
