differentiate cushings syndrome from cushings disease >???
02-19-2008, 08:42 PM
Cushing disease=Hypercortisolism due to hypersecretion of ACTH by pitutary. Can be benign pitutary adenoma.
Cushing syndrome=excesive corticosteroid due to drugs or due to excessive corticosteroid from adrenal cortex.(30%) but 40% of cases are due to cushing ds. so what do u label it when ACTH is from some other ectopic source as from small ca of lung?? ds or syndrome?

its paraneoplastic syndrome -ACTH small cell -eatonlambert syndrome wat is the important clinical presentation in the patient with eaton lambert syndrome ???

it is paraneoplastic but still the cause of "cushing syndrome",these pts have hyperpigmentation and hypkalemia.
Eaton Lambert=weakness esp of proximal muscle of limbs.Typically improve with activity, unlike myesthenia. diag:electrophysiologically(muscle response to stimulation increases) treat:plasmapheresis and immunosuppresion
