At what Hb%, do we start BT / ?? - doctorkool

1 - after an episode of acute bleeding ??
2 - when do we give BT ( blood transfusion) in chronic anemia (packed RBCs) ???
Can anyone help me in recollecting, plz.

as far as i can recall...
1. if Hgb is <10... you can transfuse prbc and will inc. Hgb 1gm per bag
2. in chronic anemia...i only know if in CRF Hgb <10g...give Erythropoietin

sorry... thats all i know...havent started any residency :0 i will answer it with conviction aafter 3 years! Smile

Isn't it < 30% EVF and symptomatic?

<7 or <27% in otherwise "normal" patients (the office patient)
<8 or <30% in in-patients (MVAs in rehab, etc) or patients with other problems
