Pap Smear question.. - alveoli
#1
How do you explain a routine yearly pap smear done on an 18 year non-smoker and sexually inactive woman with no history of genital warts?

1.to rule out Sqamous cell of cercix.
2.to rule out Adenocarcinoma of the cervix.
3.Just because she is sexually inactive she can still suffer fron clear cell carcinoma.
4.It is a just a routine test done to all women of 18+ ages

Squamous cell cancers are unique because there is a well established progression through premalignant changes before a cancer develops. These premalignant changes are easy to detect by a simple screening test called the Pap test.

Ok here we go... It is to rule out Adenocarcinoma of the Cervix which can happen in 15% of cases in these above said patients...no h/o exposure to HPV,no smoking history....
