It depends on
1- the size of the node
2- age of patient
3- smokes
4- old xray


with that information then you have an idea what to do

Defination of Solitary Pulmonary Nodule ( SPN)= Coin lesion on CXR:

Diameter Less than 3cm
+ Isolated rounded or spherical opacity in CXR
+ surrounded/outlined by normal pulmonary tissue without any feature of collapse, infiltrate
+ No Lymphadenopathy.

D/D: of SPN-

common causes are

1. Bronchogenic carcinoma , metastasis to lung, Lymphoma;
2. Tuberculoma & Histoplasmosis for endemic regions;
3. Aspergilloma;
4. Bronchial adenoma, hamertoma, Carcinoid;
5. Rheumatoid nodules, Wegeners granulomatosis;
6. Lung abscess before burst.

Less common causes are:

7.Inflammatory- sarcoid ;
8. Traummatic;
9.Congenital

Parameters to be noted for a SPN: are

size
shape
margin
Internal architecture
fat tissue inside
patteren of calcifications.

Another term is Pulmonary pseudo nodules- can be seen in

1. rounded atelectasis;
2. Pul scarring;
3. fluid in interlober fissure;
4. Healing of a #ed rib;
5. Nipple shadow;
6 Spinal ostephyte;
7.Mediastinal & pleural lesion
8. Overlapping of vascular & osseous structurs.

Pls exclude Lymphoma from the list. That is by mistake. otherwise it will contradict the defination.
