Need Help Urgent

I got a reply from one of the program and it says this-----------
Thank you for your application to the Internal Medicine program at XYZ. The Committee has reviewed your application and it is currently on hold. When there is a change in the status of your application you will be notified by email.


WHAT DOES THIS MEAN ? DO I HAVE TO CONTACT THEM ON TELEPHONE OR EMAIL THEM MY ACKOWLEDGEMENT?

WHAT IS USUALLY THE OUTCOME WHEN THE APPLICATION IS ON HOLD. . . .DID ANYONE HAVE THE SAME SITUATION
