she wrote in her PS for psychiatry that one of her kids is autism. she wrote how hard it was to have an autismatic kid in her family, the pain it brings to her and her family. this is why she wants to go into the psychiatry field so that she can help other kids with autism and their family. is this a good reason to get into psychiatry? another of my friends said his father has schizophrenia so she wants psychiatry. i am worried if she says that, the PD may wonder if she has schizophrenia also. any thoughts?

A lot of psychiatrists have psychiatric issues themselves, from what I've noticed in my med school. So I guess it's alright. And it also gives you a real reason why you really want to go to that specialty.

it has become a cliche to write abt such influences on ur decision to pursue medicine. its better that u find better reasons....the best being ur own experiences.
