Program staffs are well into their review of applications and most have begun
extending invitations to interview at their programs. Initially, applicants
will accept invitations to interview at all programs from which they receive
an invitation. ERAS recommends that you consider each interview received and
evaluate the program in light of your personal values, goals and future
aspirations. In addition, consider discussing your choices with a trusted
mentor, Student Affairs advisor, as well as family members.
Once you™ve finalized your choices, do not forget to contact the programs in
which you are no longer interested to let them know of your decision to NOT
interview at their program. This will enable the program to give this
interview slot to another worthy candidate.
Contacting the program may be done in two ways:
- Call or e-mail the program to let them know that you are withdrawing your
application from consideration.
- Withdraw your application electronically via MyERAS. Access the œPrograms
Applied To tab; select the program in question and check the box preceding œI
would like to notify this program that I am withdrawing. This will update the
program™s system and alert them if you are scheduled or waitlisted for an
interview.
These are quick and easy ways to inform the program of your decision. Even if
you make a œlast minute decision to not interview with a program, contact the
program as soon as possible. As a general rule, programs would like to know
two “ three weeks in advance of the interview, so they can make alternative
arrangements with another applicant; however, they would also appreciate any
advance notice.
Programs have indicated that it does not reflect well upon you as an applicant
or your school if you are labeled a œNo-Show for an interview. If you need
assistance updating your information in MyERAS, please contact the ERAS
HelpDesk at (202) 828-0413 or e-mail myeras@aamc.org.
Best wishes in your pursuit of the residency position that offers the best fit
for you.
