A 40 yr old man is admitted with fever,headache,and vomiting since two days.On P/E he has petechiae and purpura on trunk and lower extremities.His CSF consistent with bacterial meningitis.You tell the pt the need for hospitalization and antibiotics.The pt refuses admission and wants to be treated at home,despite of explaining the risks.What would be the best option to do in this case?

All bacterial meningitis are emergency conditions and should be treated against patient wishes?

pt has the right to refuse t/m even if its life saving.the only exception to this is if refusal of t/m could pose a risk to health and welfare of others.In this case pt is suffering from bacterial meningitis(meningococcal),which is communicable ds.the pt should be told of potential harm to others and himself ,if he still refuse he should be treated against wishes.He should be hospitalized in isolation room.
