Next, Upto what age should a child be given Penicillin prophylaxis after splenectomy to prevent opportunistic streptococcal infection ?

use ATP3 for knowing when to start life style modifications and add statins...know LDL 100, 130, 160, 190...when to do what...and what does CAD risk factors or equivalent mean...having DM is as good as having CAD...know all that from ATP3...there is a nice table in the uworld for this...

For screening...in mean Lipid panel done at age 35 in men and age 45 in women...etc...and all this is USPSTF...

so bottom line USPSTF is for when to screen and ATP3 is for management!

...guys correct me if i am wrong...

yes, but ATP3 says start at 20 with FLP
USPSTF - Total Cholesterol ... 35/45 again...
is there not a unifying consensus plz help
Also with postsplenectomy sepsis and prophylaxis

ignore ATP3 for screening...go with USPSTF thats the US gold standard...so 35/45...hope this helps...

regarding the prophylaxis - is it life long? I am not sure...

OPSI prophylaxis: UW is very vague : says may be upto 3 years or 18 year old /even lifelong. ACIP does not recommmend at all, some evenn say 30 years

Somebody please clarify
