A 52 year alcoholic is hospitalised with gross distention of his abdomen. He gives a history of varices for two years. On examination, he has bilateral pedal edema adn spider angiomaas over hands. chronic liver disease leads to accumulation of progesterone ,which leads to stimulatory effect on respiratory centre-tachypnea which leads to respiratory alkalosis.

it is usually respiratory alkalosis but depends on the real clinical scenario

the correct answer is E. it's respiratory alkalosis caused by overt progesterone. Besides, when the abdomen is distended with fluid( ascites), the patient has to breath faster to take in enough oxygen. Hence they develop alkalosis
