KNEE - In addition to oldhakim's list, in younger children, knee pain usually originates from hip pathology radiating to the knee through the superficial obturator nerve. In children 4 to 8 years, consider, Legg-Calve-Perthes disease (avascular necrosis of the hip). In age 10 to 16, think about slipped capital femoral epiphysis with pain radiating to knee; about 9 to 15 years old, consider Osgood-Sclatter's disease. Consider patellofemoral syndrome, especially in girls with femoral anteversion (knocked-knees) and pain worse with walking down stairs. Never overlook osteosarcoma (unilateral night pain) or osteomyelitis. Growing pains are a real phenomenon with pain in the distal femur and proximal tibia in both knees seen with growth spurts and worse when resting at night.
SHOULDER - I agree with oldhakim, and impingement syndrome of the rotator cuff tendons under the acromion is common in young people. Good luck from cmcases of competentmed.com
