Whats the difference between Factitious disorder and Munchausen's syndrome?

Münchausen syndrome is a slang term for psychiatric disorders known as Factitious disorders wherein those affected feign disease, illness, or psychological trauma in order to draw attention or sympathy to themselves. It is also sometimes known as hospital addiction syndrome or hospital hopper syndrome.
Münchausen syndrome is related to Münchausen syndrome by proxy (MSbP/MSP), which refers to the abuse of another being (typically a child) as a result of having a psychological disorder.

because
1. factitious disorder--pt. play sick role..not for secondary gain 2. Munchausens sydrome....pt. plays sick role (for attention to self??) 3.munchausens by proxy....make someone else sick for attention 4.Malingering...is playing sick role for secondary gain So....is factitious disorder and munchausens syndrome the same disorder?? And your saying munchausens syndrome is for secondary gain (attention for self)? like malingering?? I am sured about 3 & 4.......confused of exact meaning for 1 & 2

Factitious disorder and munchausen are same disease, with maunchausen being an exaggerated for of FD.
FD: present with slight exaggeration of sxs. Maunchausen: patients purposely contaminate urine samples, and fabricate evidence Factitious disorder: patients know for "Fact" that they're making up symptoms (conscious) versus Somatoform: unconscious. |
