what does menstrual variation mean in fibrocystic change and breast cancer?
does it mean that if theres a lump it wud either increase or decrease in size in fibrocystic change or does it mean that therez goin to be a "cyclic change".

Menstrual variation refers to changes that would occur with the menstrual cycle. For instance, in breast cancer, there are NO changes - the lump size does NOT change, there will be no pain regardless of cycle phase. Usually in the question, they will mention the patient reports no variations in lump with cycle. On the other hand, in fibrocystic change of the breast, pain AND size may increase during the first phase of the menstrual cycle, and patient might report relief as her cycle progresses. the question is in fibrocystic changes in breast cancer, what does it mean when the pt says she has menstrual variation? me and dr_inn have different opinions abt it. Could someone please clarify it..

Like annieasgha said, It means symptoms get worse right before menstruation, then improve after menstruation
