Asymptomatic 57 yo man with a 3 yr history of type 2 DM has follow up visit.
Exam show no abnormalities.
Serum studies show:

aspartate aminotranferase (AST, GOT) 76 U/L
alanine aminotranferase (ALT, GPT) 86 U/L
Iron 260 Ug/dL
Total iron binding capcity 300 Ug/dL (N= 250-450)
ferritin 1200 ng/mL
Antinuclear antibody negative

Serologic testing for hepatitis is -ve.
What is next step in mgmt?


1. corticosteroid therapy
2. Interferon therapy
3. Penicilliamine therapy
4. Chronic phlebotomy
5. No therapy indicated
