Can anyone explain LOD scores - newdoc

Heres a q from Kaplan Q book
A large family has multiple members affected with a form of colorectal cancer.the locus involved is mapped to chr-3p.A single nucleotide polymorphism-D3S1298-at 3p21 is informative in this family. The recombination frequency is calculated, also lod scores& displayed here.Whats the best conclusion from the data shown?
0.00 .0001 .001 .01 .05 .10 .20 .30 .40

Sorry..the rest of the q is
0.00 0.0001 0.001 0.01 .05 .10 .20 .30 .40
1.40 1.53 1.69 1.80 1.62 1.52 1.27 .93 .50
these are the lod scores for recombination frequencies..
a)D3s1298 is not linked to disease causing gene in this family
b)significant linkage at a distance of 0.01 cM
c) ,, ,, 1cM
d) ,, ,, 40cM
e)data s/o linkage, but more families need be tested before signif. linkage can be demonstrated

the answer is E.
the bottom line in the calculation shows the linkage, and the top shows the computer's best estimate:
if the LOD score (bottom row) are > 3, >>>> it shows a linkage.
if the LOD score is < -2 it does not shows that loci are not linked.
if the -2 < LOD score < 3 it means more data is needed you should find more samples and feed to the computer in order the get the linkage probablity.
