are there any preferable slots for scheduling the interview...as in midweek / monday/ friday.. n out of nov/dec/jan...

Most programs have set days - once or twice a week...it does not really matter if you interview over a monday vs a wednesday in terms of your chances...however air tickets might be cheaper if you are traveling on a Tuesday vs a Friday...
