desperate help needed to pass step 3-my story - mariebanos32
#1
i took my exam 3 weeks ago, confident with my 1st day of testing, the questions i used were from usmleworld, i did that 3 times, starting with a 55% and reaching an 82% by the time i hit the bank the 3rd time, i studied for several months. I also used usmleworld CCS software, which i found extremely poor, as it didn't show what areas i was defunct when i wouldn't order the right orders or manage the patient, after sometime, i though i got a hang of it, using common sense and having seeing a pattern, trying to come up with a method to manage patients coming in with similar chief complaints, ie, chest pain- I also must mention that I have not yet done residency, passed my step 2 last year, i figured this would be an ideal way to finish up the whole licensing process, as my paperwork for residency got delayed so I didn't participate in the match this year. Even without residency, I know and believe that given a solid source, the proper dedication, anyone can make the impossible, possible. I am keen on getting this exam behind me as i was only 8 points away from passing, the breakdown of my score sheet clearly indicated that my CCS cost me big time! my cases were very foreign! Any thoughts on this usmleconsult.com website? they offer 100 cases and give feedback. I felt that usmleworld wasn't very helpful for the CCS because there was no feedback when orders were put in wrong, very key to not be able to pursue on! though i would initially get stuck in a loop where a pt would either decline in health or stay in my care for a longer period of time. Also I found the mcq's weren't updated in 2 yrs, so some information regarding vaccinations and the endocarditis propyhylactic prototcol has changed this year, just to mention 2 areas i can think of right now, i think those areas are still not updated by usmleworld, i am thinking of resorting to kaplan qbank for the mcq's this time, as some ppl on this site have suggested that it is closest to the exam format. Any thoughts on this as well? afterall, i have done the bank from usmleworld 3 times, i don't want to invest money into something that i may just be recalling the right answer by mere memory.
I welcome any helpful suggestions at this time, i really need to put this behind me so i can rest easier and move on.
thanks and good luck to you all!

no, i didn't know about them, i did read their website, i wish they would offer 2 day sessions instead of 12 hours in one day, i don't think they have printable software to read or review, so i prefer taking notes to review and recall material. usmleworld have that option to print out 51 read out cases, either way, it was terrible to work with. i guess if you have residency in your background, some of that stuff just flows naturally, but for someone that is not doing the usual drone of steps, it is taxing to learn from just a few weeks of reading, practicing, it is overwhelming.

this approach is too expensive, given that i have shelled out so much money as it is and if i reapply, will need another $700 to register for step 3....even the $1000 discount really doesn't soften the blow...amazing how much money gets wasted literally by us students/ interns trying to make the score when we are not working coz again, limited by experience or some other nonsense that is used to gauge us....
