abut parkinson's - usmlepossible

see if dopamine deficent then dyskinesia sen ....

but why is there dyskinesia if we give levodopa also....

Remember that levodopa is converted to dopamine both centrally and peripherally. Since dopamine cannot cross the blood brain barrier, peripheral conversion prevents sufficient levels to be available in the CNS causing dyskinesia. Addition of Carbidopa prevents this peripheral conversion. Also addition of entacapone or tolcapone, which are COMT Inhibitors, can also increase dopamine availability by preventing L-Dopa (levodopa) breakdown. I hope this helps.

thanx ebuksalex...but my question is like....is Dyskinesia seen with patient with parkinson's or is dysinesia seen only after taking L-DOPA...


IF DYSKINESIA SEEN as normal manefestation in parkinson patient ,how is not on medication...then why so ? becasue I thought in parkinson only bradykinesia seen...
